The presidential suite at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City will be ready for occupancy by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Sunday, Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo said Friday.
Robredo, who went to the VMMC premises early Friday, likened the suite for Mrs. Arroyo to a big "hotel room," adding he expects the former Philippine leader to be "very comfortable" with the arrangements.
"We hope the renovation work on the suite will be finished by Sunday," he said in an interview on dzBB radio.
Earlier, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported the presidential suite was still undergoing some renovation.
On Thursday, a Pasay City court ordered Mrs. Arroyo transferred from the St. Luke's Medical Center (SLMC) in Taguig to the VMMC within five days.
Mrs. Arroyo has been staying at the SLMC since Nov. 15, when she was barred from leaving the country.
The former leader, now a representative of Pampanga's second legislative district, was placed under arrest Nov. 18 on charges of electoral sabotage.
Robredo went to the VMMC premises before 7 a.m. A coordinating conference was scheduled Friday morning to discuss security arrangements for Mrs. Arroyo's transfer to the VMMC from the SLMC.
"Her suite is bigger than that in a hotel. I envision the former president will be very comfortable with the arrangements," he said of Mrs. Arroyo's suite.
He noted Mrs. Arroyo will be occupying the same suite that her immediate predecessor, Joseph Estrada, occupied when he was placed under hospital arrest.
"Maluwag ang accommodation at maayos din (The accommodations are good and spacious)," he said.
